About Us

One of Paluskar’s devoted students, Prof.B.R.Deodhar started the School of Indian Music in 1925 near Opera House in Mumbai. The classes began inside Rammohan Roy English School but later Deodhar set up his school of Indian Music.(supposedly name so by smt.Sarojini Naidu).

Deodhar’s school of Indian Music was an attempt to break away from the Gharana tradition. Thus several traditions are incorporated into one singing style.

The school has a great legacy of students like Pt.Kumar Gandharva, Pt.C.P.Rele, Pt.Pandharinath Kolhapure,Pt.Sharad Sathe,Smt.Nirmala Gogate,Smt.Kausalya Manjeshwar, Pt.D.K.Datar,Pt.V.G.Jog,Pt.Shyam Gogate etc.
